“The child, for the full and harmonious development of his or her personality, should grow up in a family environment, in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding.”
The Conventions on the Rights of the Child
We have codified measurement standards based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and work hand-in-hand with local leaders and families to activate each of these rights so children can reach their full potential.
In 1989, The United Nations held the historic Convention on the Rights of the Child. It was a chance for the world to agree on the way all children should be treated. Out of this convention came a pivotal idea that is both simple and profound:
All children in all countries have the same fundamental rights. From the wealthiest to the poorest, these rights do not change, including the right to proper nutrition, education, healthcare, safety and more.
At the center of this document is a critical component that most of the other rights are built upon: That every child has the right to live with a family who loves and cares for them. It was and is a powerful statement that flies in the face of orphanage culture that still exists in many parts of the world today.
Thirty years later, in December of 2019, the UN met again to review progress on these rights and took it a step further, stating that we—as nations of the world—are no longer going to tolerate our children being raised in institutions. The time has come for change.
But how do you bring this vision into reality? While we can all agree upon what a child needs, what do you measure? And how do you measure it? And once determined, how do you go about systematically ensuring these rights are met?
Activating these rights is what Miracle Foundation is all about. In fact, our revolutionary Thrive Scale ™ methodology is based specifically on the rights as outlined by the UN. Through trial and error and careful study over several decades, we have not only determined what to measure and how to measure it, we have also developed the steps required to activate each and every right.
This includes reuniting children with families, a long overdue promise made to all children, and a growing movement where Miracle Foundation is leading the way.
As we have seen, when you ensure a child receives the basic human rights they were born with…miracles happen, children thrive and they finally have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
